Chemical auxiliaries for water treatment During the extraction, purification and recycling of water, difficulties in particular those associated with scale and corrosion, must be avoided or at least reduced. Zschimmer & Schwarz offers chemical auxiliaries for a wide range of applications in the water treatment sector. From cooling towers to boiler systems, through desalination and/or geothermal plants, you can rely on custom-made chemical additives from Zschimmer & Schwarz to master challenges and improve the efficiency of your production processes. At Zschimmer & Schwarz, we offer cooling water treatment additives to prevent scaling and corrosion, which reduce energy efficiency and cause damage to the plant. It must be considered that cooling water treatment is systemic. So, the individual components for scale and corrosion inhibition, dispersion and prevention of biological scaling must be well balanced.

Typical problems associated with boiler systems involve the formation of deposits of poorly soluble salts such as calcium and magnesium carbonate and corrosion of metal parts. To prevent this, Zschimmer & Schwarz offers high-quality products for boiler water treatment.

Dispersants increase the effectiveness of corrosion inhibition. Depending on the quality of the water used and the type of installation, different chemicals will be used.
Successful antiscalant treatment in membrane separation processes results in prolonged cleaning intervals. This increases the service life of the membrane modules with safe scaling removal and lowest possible membrane attack.

Membrane separation methods include reverse osmosis and nanofiltration. These systems involve selective "molecule filtration" using special polymer membranes. The membrane is permeable to small water molecules, while preventing the passage of larger molecules and ions (such as cations and anions from inorganic salts). The concentration on the raw water side causes supersaturation effects, resulting in the precipitation of poorly soluble salts.
Zschimmer & Schwarz antiscalants are very useful in reverse osmosis systems as they suppress the precipitation of the sparingly soluble salts formed by the supersaturation of the raw water. This increases the service life of the reverse osmosis membranes. In addition, we offer a range of products with NSF certification, which is required for drinking water production.

MSF (multi-stage flash evaporation) involves a gradual evaporation of salt water at temperatures above 100 °C and at reduced pressure. The resulting isolated condensate is salt-free and can be reused, while the water remaining in the evaporator is returned to the sea with a much higher salt load.
Zschimmer & Schwarz products for seawater treatment help to avoid problems resulting from salt deposits in evaporators and corrosion caused mainly by high salt loads.

Geothermal energy is a clean, renewable energy source, which harnesses the heat stored in the earth's interior. The production of geothermal energy is therefore key to moving towards a sustainable and decarbonised world.
Zschimmer & Schwarz offers solutions to prevent the formation of sulphides and/or sulphates, which can significantly impair the efficiency of geothermal energy production within heat exchangers, as well as products to prevent corrosion, which can affect the respective process.
